Dementia Friends

Dementia Friends is an Alzheimers Society initiative to transform how the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia. Becoming a Dementia Friend simply means finding out more about how dementia affects a person – and then, armed with this understanding, doing small everyday things that help. For example, being patient in a shop queue, or spending time with someone you know who is living with dementia. Every action counts, no matter how small.

The Dementia Actif Gwynedd Team have all completed an induction day with the Alzheimer’s Society to become Dementia Friends Champions. They are able to deliver information sessions to individuals, community groups and organisations. The sessions take about 40-60 minutes and are free of charge. To date the team have created nearly 1000 new Dementia Friends delivering the sessions to groups such as- Dentist & GP surgery staff; Schools, Hair salons, Trading Standards Teams, First Responders, Church groups; leisure centre staff and customers and general public.

The Dementia Actif Gwynedd team can also deliver 30 minutes information sessions online.
